The entire experience of working with Herchenbach Mechanical has been absolutely top-notch from start to finish. From the moment I called to schedule my appointment their courteous staff and customer-friendly processes made me feel like I was in the hands of true professionals. Once the appointment was booked, they arrived promptly on-time, called me well ahead of time, and even sent me a notification email showing a picture and description of the technician that was expecting to arrive. This was a nice personal touch, and shows they really know how to make their customers feel prepared and comfortable. Once in my home, the technicians were very professional and knowledgeable. They informed me of everything they were doing and any observations they made during the maintenance process. They recommended an inexpensive replacement part and notified me of the price up front and why it was beneficial to replace it ahead of time. When they left, they sent me an invoice with full details of the work performed for our records. Overall, I wanted to send a huge kudos to Jodi and Hillary in the office, as well as technician Brian for doing a great job of addressing our HVAC maintenance needs. We were so impressed with the service we received, we actually signed up for an annual maintenance plan and look forward to scheduling our next preventative maintenance with Herchenbach Mechanical. We bought our Carrier system from Herchenbach just about a year ago, and were pleased with that process as well as the subsequent routine maintenance visits. About a month ago now, however, an unusual equipment issue arose that turned into a tiresome diagnostic and eventual repair/replacement process that chewed up hours of the Herchenbach team's time and energy. It also tested everyone's patience, including mine.Through Herchenbach's perseverance and unwavering commitment to customer service, fairness, and honesty I/we now believe the issue to be resolved. Accordingly, we appreciate the efforts of the office staff, the technicians involved, and the owner (Curtis) throughout that process. If you want to be able to rely on an HVAC company when there are problems, and not just when things are working well, you need to consider Herchenbach Mechanical. I met with 3 local Carrier dealers before deciding to go with Herchenbach and I'm glad I did. My consultation meeting was with Curtis Herchenbach, the owner. He's a very knowledgeable and friendly guy and did a great job of steering me to the right equipment decisions. That meeting was a much better experience than with the other 2 companies salesmen/consultants. Curtis also showed up during the installation to make sure everything was done right. The installers, Nick and Cody, were very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. They took pride in their work and the finished job showed it. After a few bad experiences with other HVAC companies, I finally found an HVAC company I can trust and will continue to use from now on!read more

I began using Herchenbach Mechanical after moving into my home in Gurnee last November 2023. I read the many great reviews on their work and I was pleased to find that all my expectations have been met and exceeded. The customer service team who answers the calls has been exceptionally nice, patient, and hardworking for my needs. Specifically Jodi & Hillary are always very pleasant on the phone, empathize with my situation, and do everything they can to help me out. This past month (July 2024) my furnace unexpectedly went out the week before I was leaving on a week long vacation. The team worked super hard to move things around so that the new furnace could get installed ASAP before I left. Post vacation, my AC capacitor failed and I found myself without AC again. Jodi let me know that there was a wait list going but she'd be in touch. By 10:30am I already had a tech at my door. Incredible service!The technicians who have completed work at my house have also exceed expectations. I have been helped by Edgar and Cory numerous times for assessment and routine work. Both guys are very nice, professional, and complete the job in a reasonable amount of time. Cade, Dave, and Nick completed my new furnace install. The guys were thorough in their explanations of the work, kept me informed of their progress, and even provided me with recommendations to keep my furnace working at its best.I can't recommend Herchenbach Mechanical enough!read more

We had a great experience with Herchenbach. Curtis came out to do our estimate and he even came out a second time to answer some questions. We had both an AC and furnace installed in our home. Nick was fabulous with the install and explained the functionality of the new thermostat and how to navigate the app. The other men who came out to assist Nick (I am not sure of their names) were very professional and worked hard to rectify an issue we had with our internal wiring. I highly recommend this company for their customer service and expertise.read more

We initially had our AC go out and found Herchenbach Mechanical online. We called the office and had a technician, Brian D, dispatched to troubleshoot within the next day. Brian was able to quickly diagnose our issue and had the unit back up and running within 30 minutes. He was very professional, took the time to explain everything he was doing and all of his diagnostic steps.Our unit was already 20+ years old and we've had multiple issues with it prior to reaching out to Herchenbach Mechanical so we ended up having some quotes sent for a new furnace. Because I personally don't know much about HVAC we had requested someone come out and walk us through the quotes to get a better understanding of what we were agreeing to. Hilary at the front office was on top of things. Making sure we had someone that could discuss the quotes to us in person, making sure there were no issues, she's honestly a rockstar. Curtis ended up coming out and spent a good 45-60 minutes walking us through the quote, the pros and cons of the systems, what would be good for our house and what might not provide much of a benefit. After the walkthrough we felt pretty confident with our decision.We were able to have the Hercehnbach Mechanical team come out and replace our existing Furnace and AC unit within a few weeks, at our request. Nick B and his team tore everything out, cleaned everything up and then took some time to walk us through all the items that were changed including how often to change our new filter system, the ionizer filter, the new breaker, and the new thermostat. They were even able to accommodate moving the condenser a little further out. Throughout the entire process the team was respectful and professional. Once everything was completed Nick made sure that we had no additional questions before he left and the entire process did not feel rushed.All in all we've had multiple contacts with the Herchenbach team and all of them were extremely positive. If you're unsure and want to get an honest opinion, you cant go wrong with this team. We'll be customers for life.read more

Our A/C went out & Corey the technician came out, looked at the system, checked if our current system part was under warranty & completed the repair. It was! He also cleaned the coils on the a/c unit and and recommended a service contract. I now see the benefits of having a service contract as cleaning the system annually can help the system to operate much more efficiently. You also get 10% off any future repairs. HVAC is something I don't really know much about. Meeting the professional from Herchenbach I was relieved to get a Honest explanation in terms that I could understand without feeling like I was going to be charged more and taken advantage of.. The entire team approached me the way the owner had during the estimate and I loved the consistency with how things were handled. I don’t recall how I found Herchenbach, but I won’t work with any other HVAC company. Everything about them is painless and in perfect order— from scheduling to getting your system running again without any nonsense we saw from others we tried. Our furnace was only putting cold air out on Tuesday night. Woke up to 58 in the house. Called around 1 pm on Wednesday and the lady said that she would have a guy come out that afternoon. Our service technician Trace, checked out the furnace and said he could get the part today or have a technician come the next morning. We decided on the next morning. The next morning at 9am Edgar was here with the new part and ready to install it. Great tech and follow through with making sure that everything was working. I am very pleased with both techs Trace and Edgar. Professional, knowledgeable and great customer service. The technician’s went beyond for us and now we will only use them.This is the first time that I have used this company. We always used Lombardo’s Heating in Grayslake. We need to have our furnace and air conditioner surveyed as well as installing two humidifiers in the house we purchased couple months ago. Herchenbach was referred by my colleague who has been a loyal customer for more than 15 years. And I know why now. Out of all companies we worked with in the last 20 years, the technicians in Herchenbach are just just absolutely phenomenal. They are professional and extremely pleasant to work with. They did not try to sell us anything and just gave us the facts with explanation. In fact, there was a lot of complication with our furnace. They had to send additional help to sort out the complex issue. Not only they did not charge us extra, but also they took time to explain to us the issues and how to maintain the furnace and humidifiers. We are 100% certain we now also became the loyal customers. I am most impressed with the speed with which the company responded to me. I found out yesterday morning that my 26 year old furnace is dead and my house was ice cold. So I called Herchenbach at 8:45 am and within two hours Curtis, the owner, appeared at my house to discuss the estimate as well as see if he could try to repair my existing furnace to get me some heat. When the old furnace did not respond, then his office arranged with their existing customer with non emergency needs so they can let me take their installation appointment so I can have heat ASAP.They take pride in their work and are interested in providing comfort to their customers as their foremost goal. They represented trusted name brand such as Carrier and even arranged financial payment plan through a bank if needed.A day later, I am already in my home comfortably. Our Herchenbach service technician, (Trace Mathiesen) was outstanding. First let me start off with the call to the company to schedule a service technician. We set up the original appt was set for between 2:30 -3 pm. Kool no problem. Then a received a call saying they will be here 2 hrs sooner then originally scheduled. Awesome. When Trace arrived, he was very pleasant and professional. As he was trouble shooting the furnance, he was explaining each set he was doing. Trace found the problem and repaired the defective part. I would recommend Herchbach Technial to do your heating and cooling needs. I would ask for Trace to be your technician to fix your heating/cooling issues. My furnace would run on high and the exhaust stunk. They told me that usually indicates a bad heat exchanger. I told them the gas valve was intermittent. They replaced the valve shortly after they left it shut down could run on high. The came back the next day and tested for the heat exchanger and said it was bad so I need a new furnace they said they could install one tomorrow if I wanted one. They told me about four year 0% financing. I applied for it and was approved for only $7,000 and needed $12,000. They said that they would see if they could help me. They were able to get to $9,000 so I borrowed $2,500 and told them to replace it. They saved my life after removing the old one the heat exchanger was rotted with holes. They still can't figure out why I wasn't carbon monoxide. They did great work and worked very hard. I enjoyed watching them and talking to them. I recommend them to every one they all are very smart and can fine problems.read more

I found Herchenbach Mechanical when comparison shopping for a new furnace. The excellent reviews and promotional free quote prompted me to go ahead and schedule a quote. Curtis was quick to schedule an installation quote and was incredibly clear and comprehensive when going over our existing system and what would be expected with a replacement. After reviewing I decided to go with Herchenbach due to some modest cost savings and their standard of a 3 year labor warranty as compared to a 1 year labor warranty from my prior/other HVAC service provider.My new furnace installation went great. Nick and the install team were awesome. They had the whole job done in about 4 hours (super quick in my experience) and even repaired/replaced a drain line that I opted to not to address from the quote as a courtesy. They were efficient and tidy, and the new furnace looks and runs great. I am happy to recommend Herchenbach and will be checking with them when it comes time to replace my AC. Thanks!read more

I called Herchenbach right before a holiday weekend and in the midst of a nasty winter storm to report that my furnace wasn't working properly. Trace came out that afternoon and diagnosed the need for a new furnace. He got the old furnace running and showed me how to reset it if it continued to go off. Curtis was in contact with me throughout the holiday weekend to make sure I was managing and getting enough heat. The furnace started to struggle and Ken came out on the holiday to get it stabilized once more. New furnace was installed by Ken and his crew the next day. Not what I wanted to be dealing with over the holiday, BUT it was handled so well by all involved. I can't say enough about this company and how well they have cared for me over the 25+ years I've used them.read more

Herchenbach sent out a crew to install a furnace and heat pump A/C. They worked an entire day at our house. They were on time, efficient, friendly, and kept us informed on their progress. We contacted Herchenbach at the recommendation by our neighbor when we had problems with our air conditioning. The technician identified the problem and resolved it for us. We contacted them again later for a different issue and to have a new thermostat installed. We worked with Trace to get the appropriate smart thermostat installed. Trace was extremely knowledgeable, patient and personable. He answered all our questions and took the time needed to get the app working on our phones. On New Years weekend our furnace began working intermittently. I contacted Herchenbach early Monday morning. Within a couple of hours Trace came by and diagnosed a failing heat exchanger on our 18 year old furnace. He gave me several options to repair or replace. I chose to replace our old furnace. The forecast for the upcoming week was single digit temperatures. Curtis was able to move some work around and first thing Wednesday morning his team arrived and installed a new furnace. I wasn't happy when my "antique" furnace "crapped out" in sub zero temperatures about a week ago, but in under 7 days, we went from making the initial call to Herchenbach, to getting our new Carrier Furnace installed yesterday. It was an unbelievably simple process from start to finish. I got 3 quotes sent over via e-mail the first morning, they were all explained to me thoroughly by Curtis, as HVAC is definitely not my thing, and I chose one of the options that same day, applied for the financing on their website immediately following, was approved 10 minutes later, and they were out here 4 business days later doing the work. Hilllary in the office was fantastic, she remained patient with me, considering all of my questions, as I was nervous about spending the money suddenly, but they could not have been better as a team. The 2 installers were great as well. With the snow melting, I was worried about mud, but they laid down tarps from the entrance all the way downstairs to the furnace room. It was a total non-issue. They got the job done, extremely professional, answered any questions I had with knowledgeable answers, and including demolition, complete install and testing, in 6 hours. It was unbelievable. The Carrier system is so quiet compared to the unit they replaced, and the smart thermostat is so cool as well. Anyway, I would highly recommend Herchenbach and Carrier to anyone looking for a new Furnace and/or A/C system. They will be back out in April doing my A/C system. Looking forward to it! My furnace went out early morning January 20th. On my daughter's recommendation (who had her furnace and A/C replaced by Herchenbach a year ago), I called Herchenbach, and they came out the same morning. They told me my 23 year old furnace (A/C same age--both original in this house) needed replacing, explained options, and gave me quotes on site. After accepting one, they came out at 7:30 AM the following day and replaced furnace, A/C and humidifier by 4:30 PM. There was a leak said he could fix it but could not guarantee how long it would last. We decided to go with a new AC and furnace at the same time. I have a very old Air Conditioner and Furnace and knew they needed to be replaced soon. I called ABC first and they told me my Compressor failed and that would be just about as costly to repair versus replace. I had them quote to replace the furnace and the air conditioner. I learned that you should always get a few quotes (No matter the situation). So I called Herchenbach (Mike?) to get a second quote on my air conditioner and furnace. The tech (actually the sales guy) came in and starting writing up the quote based on the details ABC provided me. The Tech from Herchenbach (Mike ?), on a whim asked me to turn on the air conditioner. When I did, he looked at me and asked if I would be interested in fixing it versus buying a new. Of course I agreed. Just by hearing the Air kick on, he had a hunch ABC didn't diagnose the issue correctly. He went an got his tools and retested the system. It turn out that I blew a the cylinder, not the Compressor. I fixed it for $176 instead of 5,000. He completed the quote to replace both my Air Conditioner and furnace and the quote came out to be substantially less than what ABC quoted. Herchenbach was extremely knowledgeable and I felt the company will go over and beyond to satisfy their customer. I will be replacing my furnace and air conditioner this fall and Herchenbach Mechanical Inc. will be the company I trust to complete the installation. They are amazing!!read more

They also added zoning to resolve temperature variances in several areas of my home. I made a call to Herchenbach on a Sunday afternoon after my boiler went hay wire. They made it over within a couple hours. They diagnosed the problem and were able to give me heat for the night. I had an outstanding experience with Herchenbach Mechanical's installation of my new furnace, air conditioner and humidifier. They also added zoning to resolve temperature variances in several areas of my home. I was on a tight time schedule to replace a 18 year old system that had quit working and they promptly came out to access my house and old system and amazingly had a comprehensive quote back to me within hours that included three options for the furnace and air conditioner and two options for the new zoning solution. An out of town trip made it necessary to do the installation as soon as possible and they were very accommodating, starting the install within 48 hours after I gave them my approval.
