An HVAC system can account for as much as 50 percent of a home’s overall energy consumption, so consumers are always looking for ways to cut utility bills, lower heating repair costs and improve indoor comfort. Unfortunately, single-stage conventional heating and cooling equipment can only save money when it’s turned off. However, Carrier’s hybrid heat dual-fuel systems incorporate variable-speed technology and intelligent controls that precisely track changing weather conditions for superior energy savings and exceptional comfort.

What is a Hybrid Heat System?

The Carrier hybrid heat system combines a heat pump and furnace to provide both inviting warmth and extraordinary economy in a single HVAC system. In severe winter weather, the furnace delivers efficient heat regardless of how low the outdoor temperature drops. Conversely, when the weather is relatively mild and the temperature is above freezing, the system switches over to the heat pump. Working together, both units offer the ultimate in overall heating efficiency.

When the seasons change, the heat pump also serves as an air conditioner during the summer months. Carrier’s split hybrid heat system includes an Infinity 98 furnace paired with an Infinity 20 heat pump. These advanced components provide 98 AFUE furnace efficiency, 13 HSPF heat efficiency and a 20.5 SEER rating in the air conditioning mode.

Hybrid Heat and Greenspeed Intelligence

Carrier’s Greenspeed Intelligence is a system that allows a compatible heat pump and furnace to change output capacity to precisely match the changes in outdoor weather conditions. In essence, the system senses when the indoor load has changed and automatically adjusts the blower and compressor to run anywhere between 40 and 100 percent capacity. In addition to efficient operation, the system provides enhanced humidity control, lower noise levels and better air movement.
